Devotional for Psalm 125 - By Katie Boltwood
All I could think about when I was reading this scripture was the turmoil that is going on overseas in the Holy Land. "For the scepter of wickedness shall not rest on the land allotted to the righteous, lest the righteous stretch out their hands to do wrong. Do good, O Lord, to those who are good, and to those who are upright in their hearts! But those who turn aside to their crooked ways the Lord will lead away with evildoers! Peace be upon Israel!" I think about all the destruction that is coming upon God's chosen land and the fear that must be instilled in everyone involved and in harm's way. Yet, when we look at Psalm 125, we can recall the promise the Lord has for His children. He surrounds them like the mountains surround Jerusalem and He does good to those who are good and upright in heart. He protects against the "scepter of the wicked." He also promises that He will fight for us; pick out those who lack faith in Him, "The Lord will banish..." The overall message of this scripture is that the Lord will continually protect and fight for His children. Satan can never have a grasp on what God has promised to protect. However, this sort of parental protection only comes to "those who trust in the Lord" because "those who turn to crooked ways the Lord will banish with the evildoers."
