We’re not back yet.
But we’re starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. We are wondering about a return. A return to…what? What now?
Some things will pick up right where we left off in March. Some things aren’t going to ever be the same again. We’re asking questions about which will be which. We can guess, but we don’t know. Not really.
When Jesus visited the disciples in the upper room, were these the questions? What was going to stay the same? What was going to be different?
The Twelve were still going to get together. Well, sort of, after a replacement. The Scriptures were still the Scriptures. The Father was still the Father. But so much else was different.
Recently I’ve been teaching our student leaders a framework to evaluate the overall health in the life of a Christian community. One of the markers in this framework is being able to recognize and respond to stimuli. The life given by the Spirit showed when we responded well to a need to protect our congregation. The life given by the Spirit showed when we responded well to an opportunity to push our message to the internet in record time.
What now? Jesus is bringing us an opportunity to respond as His Church. He’s giving us His Spirit to give us life that shows in our response. He’s giving us some things that will be the same. He’s giving us some things that will be different. But He’s giving us an opportunity to respond with His Gospel. What now? Jesus.
