Scott Andrusz is famous in certain circles. You don’t know Scott? Well, then you don’t run in his circles. You don’t find what he does to be important. But to many people, he is important.
Scott is important because he did something crazy and quirky. Because he did something different and a little weird.
Scott is important because he grew a really big pumpkin. I mean, really big. It weighed in at 2,554 pounds. It broke the North American record (the world record is held by another important guy you’ve probably never heard of). People who follow really large pumpkins know Scott, care about Scott’s work, celebrate with Scott’s victories, agonize with his defeats.
A former student of mine, Aaron, probably knows Scott. Aaron grew a measly 830 pound pumpkin back in 2020. He’s “big pumpkin people.” He knows Scott. He considers Scott famous.
When God looks at us, he sees us like some people look at Scott. The rest of the world may not care. They might think you’re weird or quirky. They might ignore you or pass you by. Not God. To God, you’re famous. You’re the one of a kind you. You’re different and a little crazy. He loves that about you. Enough that He sent His only Son Jesus to die to pay the price of your entrance into a life with Him in eternity.
You’re famous to God. He knows you. He cares about your work. He agonizes over your defeats. He celebrates your victories. He loves you.
