This is election week.
Elected positions and people that you forgot existed show up on ballots. Soil and Water Management? We end up doing research, trying to figure out who is the best vote. Or perhaps we vote by party line. Or perhaps we bubble in the name that we think sounds the nicest.
When we’re done, we leave the small privacy desk. We get the sticker. The one that says “I voted.” It’s a badge of honor that day. Perhaps if we stumble upon it later, it is a reminder. Or maybe even an accusation. Politicians are people, after all. And people are sinners, after all. Did we vote correctly? There’s only one way to tell.
Wouldn’t it be nice if we didn’t have to worry about decisions like these? If we knew a person who wouldn’t let us down? Wouldn’t abuse our trust? Would make good decisions that would lead to even greater realities than what we could imagine today?
Good thing there is a Jesus. Good thing He doesn’t need our vote. If He left it up to us, we might elect a Barabbas.
But He didn’t leave it up to us. He put it on Himself. Voted Himself into our world, onto a Cross we made for Him. The only One on the ballot.
Thank goodness He won.
