Our Sunday morning Bible study from 9:30am to 10:30am chooses their own topics most of the time. Recently we finished up studying the life of Paul the Apostle. Starting this Sunday, we are going to be studying Old Testament Typology and Prophecy — in other words, “Where is Jesus in the Old Testament?”
The question is an important one, because it challenges what we believe, and what we don’t believe. At times, some Christians can give off the idea that the Old Testament is somehow just optional background reading, and that the “real” word of God is found in the New Testament. This kind of perception would have clearly surprised most of the New Testament writers who would have most likely seen the “Old Testament” as being more foundational than even their own writings.
When we look at the Hebrew Scriptures, aka the Old Testament, we see the same God at work as when we read the New Testament. In this Old Testament we see God’s plan to send us a savior who will be for all nations. We see how Isaiah pointed to a messiah who would be born of a maiden. We see how Joel pointed to the day of Pentecost. Jesus Himself may not be on the surface of those readings, but it is easy to find Him at work just below the veneer.
Please consider joining us this Sunday as we start off our Bible study digging in deep to where we find Jesus in the Hebrew Scriptures.
