Happy Seven Eleven day! If tradition holds true, you can make your way to a 7 Eleven store today and get a free slurpee. You will have to drive to Midway, FL however. Tallahassee doesn’t have a 7 Eleven.
The store was named 7 Eleven back in 1946 to promote the (at the time) outlandish idea that the convenience store was open from 7am to 11pm. Those kind of hours were unheard of and a company that was willing to keep its doors open that long showed a commitment to the needs of their customers.
But soon, many convenience stores followed suit and 7 Eleven along with other stores hit the saturation point of being open 24 hours. Try as you might, you can’t be open any more than 24 hours.
That story reminds me of another story of 7’s. Peter said to Jesus, “How many times should I forgive? Up to 7 times?” It seemed ludicrous to Peter. Seven times?!? That was a bunch. It was like staying open from 7am to 11pm.
But Jesus went “24 hour” on Peter. “I tell you not 7 times, but 70 times 7 times.” Jesus wasn’t meaning 490. He was meaning complete saturation. How many times should I forgive? 24 hours of forgiveness. Always ready forgiveness.
That’s tough for us. Our forgiveness is more like Peter’s. We get pretty maxed out at around 7, maybe less.
But Jesus’ forgiveness is there for us – 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, Christmas AND Easter, and every day in between.
Your Savior is there when you need Him, no matter what time or day it is. And you don’t even have to drive to Midway to talk to Him.
