Unsealed Files

There’s a lot of hubbub in the media today about the unsealing of some files from the JFK administration. Questions are obviously being asked about if these files say anything about his assassination, but also some questions that might seem sillier – like if they discuss his supposed relationship with Marilyn Monroe or even answer questions about space aliens visiting earth. It seems like there’s so much possibility for unanswered questions to be resolved. What could be found out?

The Apostle Paul talks about a similar “sealing” when he writes his second letter to the Corinthians. In chapter 3 of 2 Corinthians he says of those who refuse Jesus: “But their minds were hardened. For to this day, when they read the old covenant, that same veil remains unlifted, because only through Christ is it taken away. Yes, to this day whenever Moses is read a veil lies over their hearts.” The idea is that these people can’t understand the Scriptures because they have been sealed in their lack of belief in Jesus.

“But,” Paul continues, “when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.”

Not only are the “files” of Scripture opened for us by the power of the Spirit, but we also are transformed into His same image, a degree at a time as we read His Word. I’m not sure I would want to become JFK, but can you imagine how crazy it would be if that is what happened to the people who were reading those newly unsealed files? Even if they would all start speaking with that funny upperclass “Bostonian” accent, that would be amazing.

But God promises us even better as we read through Jesus’ files in the Bible. He promises us that we will become more and more like Jesus every day, one degree of glory at a time as we are forgiven and sanctified by those holy “files”.

So open up that set of “files” for yourself today and watch how God uses them to transform you into the likeness of His Son.
