List Making

I live with someone who is a self-proclaimed list maker. Maybe you know someone like this. The moment that I or someone has to travel or do something that might require a list – the pen and the notebook paper come flying out. The reason for the list is simple, it gives us security to know that we’ve thought through the things on the list.

And that is why we want you to write a list this week.

But this isn’t a packing list. It’s something different.

We want you to write a list of the sins that you have committed, confessed, repented of, and received forgiveness for. Not all of them obviously.

Here’s why. Jesus tells us in Mark 1:15 to “Repent and believe the good news.” Sometimes Satan will through our old sins in our face, and will accusingly say, “are you sure He forgave you of even *this* sin?” That’s where believing the good news comes in. The good news is that God HAS forgiven that sin for the sake of Jesus. No questions, no insecurities. It’s forgiven.

Make the list and remember that everything on that list is something that Jesus took away with His death on the Cross. And when a new sin comes up, you know the drill – repent, and after you repent, put it on the list. Believe the good news. It’s real. It’s true. It’s good.
